Burlington, This Is You! draws on CCTV’s 40-year community media archive to show how the people of Burlington, Vermont have navigated decades of social and economic justice, open media and free speech activism.
Burlington, This is You! is a feature-length documentary co-directed by Myles David Jewell and Lauren-Glenn Davitian, and produced by Meghan O’Rourke and Jordan Mitchell, with Jewell and Davitian also serving as producers.
The project is supported by Pennington Productions, a Vermont-based company founded by Jewell that specializes in high-quality, resource-efficient filmmaking, and CCTV Center for Media & Democracy, a nonprofit founded in 1984 to advance free speech, promote local democracy, and support community participation in political decision making. CCTV seeks to build unity and empathy in the community by convening, recording, airing, sharing, and archiving community voices. CCTV’s aim is to develop a sustainable local media access infrastructure and preserve archival video documenting community life and civic engagement.
Over the past five years, Jewell has collaborated closely with Davitian and the CCTV staff to produce a documentary that not only tells a deeply local story, but also expands public understanding of community media and public access.
Beyond the feature film, the project includes an advocacy series led by local creators that explores additional community stories, as well as a curriculum designed to inspire emerging media makers and activists. Jewell is also a Senior Lecturer at the University of Vermont, where he teaches Community Media Production.
